TCS’ $50-bn Goal below Its Growth Standards | In the News

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) — the largest information technology (IT) services provider in India and the second-largest globally — recently set an ambitious goal of $50 billion in revenue by 2030.

When asked if the ambition of $50 billion is somewhat conservative in a fast-growing market, Peter Bendor-Samuel, Chief Executive Officer, Everest Group, said: “The industry has entered a megacycle and we expect robust growth for the foreseeable future, with strong secular trends supporting growth.

Ukraine Crisis May Shift Some IT Work to India | In the News

The exit of tech companies like Accenture and IBM from Russia and disruptions in the operations of tech delivery centers in Ukraine is likely to divert more work to India and other Southeast Asian countries. It is also likely to bring more business to Indian IT services giants as global tech firms with large presence in Ukraine now stare at a period of uncertainty.

Peter Bendor-Samuel, CEO and founder of Everest Group, said the environment presents a great opportunity for Indian firms as between the service providers and global business services (GBS)/captives, “there is likely in excess of a 100,000 FTEs (full time equivalents/employees) which will be affected and be taken out of the global workforce due to the war and sanctions.”

Global, Indian Peers May Take a Cue from TCS Rejig, Say Analysts | In the News

Tata Consultancy Services’ (TCS) move to restructure its operations, eyeing $50 billion in revenue, could be replicated by other global and Indian peers in due course, analysts have said.

“TCS is significantly larger than Infosys and Wipro, and as such, faces a more urgent need to structure itself at scale,” said Peter Bendor-Samuel, CEO of Everest Group. “We can see some of the same thinking emerging from both Infosys and Wipro, but they don’t face the same scaling issues that TCS is starting to experience. Hence, they have not moved as aggressively down the same path yet.”

April 1 Return-To-Office Deadline Bucked by BPOs | In the News

The business process outsourcing (BPO) industry—which created over 20,000 new jobs despite the recession in 2020 thanks to work-from-home arrangements—is asking for a few more months before most of its workforce returns to the office. But the government wants them all back by April 1.

BPO firms abroad, including those in the Philippines’ biggest competitor India, will likely continue to have many of their employees working from home even after the pandemic, according to a previous Inquirer interview with officials of Everest Group, a research firm that advises Global 1,000 companies in outsourcing their services. The Indian government is already adjusting its policies and tax breaks to support BPOs working from home. The Philippines, said the officials, should do the same or get left behind.
