IT Firms Brace For Manpower-Driven Growth; Hire More Engineers For Every $1-Billion Revenue – The Economic Times | In The News

“The Indian IT industry hired more people for every $1 billion in revenues last year despite increased focus on newer technologies such as automation and artificial intelligence, in a sign that the sector has yet to decouple revenues from headcount growth. Peter Bendor Samuel, CEO at Everest Research, agreed there was a need to look at newer sources of value as the IT industry’s labour arbitrage model has matured, and is expected to only last only for another 3-5 years. There are also bigger threats on the horizon, as IT becomes a utility and could get completely outsourced to cloud players. Clients no longer need companies to customise software for them — a large chunk of the Indian IT sector’s revenue.” Read More.

What Capgemini’s Acquisition Of IGATE Means: An Analyst View – Times Of India | In The News

“In reaction to what looks to be an imminent acquisition by French IT giant Capgemini, Nasdaq-listed Igate’s share price has rallied 12% to $45.85 from $40.90 in twelve days. The deal, which some expect will be announced on Monday, would be one of the biggest acquisitions in the IT services space. Paris-based Capgemini could consider taking the $1.2-billion Igate private post the acquisition, said sources. Igate would make an excellent acquisition for Capgemini. They are the right sizes to absorb, not too small so it does not move the dial, but not so big that they will struggle,” said Peter Bendor Samuel, CEO of US-based Everest Group.” Read More.

Currency, Shift In Deal Structure Impact Q4 Numbers Of IT Players – Business Standard | In The News

“The top four information technology companies not only missed their fourth-quarter estimates but also delivered disappointing annual numbers. The silver lining, however, was in their managements’ expectations of better growth in 2015-16. New growth areas in cloud, digital, and software-as-a-service are based less on arbitrage, reducing the competitiveness of the big Indian firms, said Peter Bendor-Samuel, CEO of the Everest Group. This is a permanent change and unless Indian firms can gain leadership in the new areas, they are looking at slower growth,  he added.” Read More.

Capgemini Eyeing Igate? – Business Insider | In The News

“The fastest way to expand the existing business is by acquiring another company. And it appears that Europe’s biggest IT services company Capgemini is likely to acquire NASDAQ-listed Igate, which was founded by Sunil Wadhwani and Ashok Trivedi. This was revealed by multiple sources in a Times of India (TOI) report. Peter Bendor Samuel, CEO of Everest Group, said Igate would make an excellent acquisition for Capgemini. They are the right size to absorb, not too small so it does not move the dial, but not so big that they will struggle. Igate will be accretive to margins. Capgemini has a large net operating loss in the US from their failed acquisition of EY’s consulting practice, and the large Igate US presence will allow them to use it, he said.” Read More.

Latin America’s Complex Data Protection Laws Not Cause For US Firms to Reshore – Nearshore Americas | In The News

“Data protection laws vary from country to country across Latin America and their implications for outsourcers are not always immediately clear. Concerns over data security in the region were reignited with the recent news that AT&T was fined US$25 million after data customer breaches at call centers (the names of the service providers were not disclosed) in Mexico, Colombia and the Philippines. There has been some suggestion that concerns over data security in Latin America are leading buyers in the United States to reshore work that they had outsourced to the region. Everest Group noted recently that the proportion of new onshore delivery centers among all new set-ups by major service providers almost doubled from 21% to 39% from the first half of 2012 through the first half of 2014.” Read More.

Rishad Premji Makes It To Wipro Board – Times Of India | In The News

“Rishad Premji, elder son of Wipro promoter Azim Premji, has been appointed to the board of directors of the $7-billion company effective May 1. The move was widely expected. Azim Premji will be 70 in July this year, and Rishad’s elevation to the board clearly indicates he will represent the ownership interest in India’s third-largest IT firm. Azim Premji and family own 73.39% of the shares in the company. Peter Bendor Samuel, CEO of Everest Group, said Rishad’s induction to the board had been coming for some time. “With the family owning such a large proportion of Wipro, this makes a lot of sense. If anything, the family is under-represented on the board. Rishad has certainly paid his dues working in a wide variety of roles in Wipro and learning the business,” he said.” Read More.
