Unlocking the Potential of Carbon Capture and Utilization: a Techno-economic and Policy Perspective

Policymakers and industry leaders increasingly recognize the urgent need to address climate change by reducing Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions and mitigating the growing risks of extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and other climate-related disasters. To prevent irreversible damage, deep decarbonization strategies must include proactive and preventive measures. Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) plays a vital role in attaining deep decarbonization, particularly in sectors that are difficult to decarbonize, such as cement, steel, and chemicals. However, international progress in reducing GHG emissions remains limited. Effective carbon abatement must ensure access to reliable and affordable energy while fostering economic development to improve living standards. Technology innovations in CCU and achieving economies of scale are essential to make decarbonization practical and economically viable.

In this report, we focus on the growing adoption of CCU technology pathways and how it helps achieve decarbonization.
