6 Alternatives to Blockchain for Businesses to Consider | In the News

Blockchain has risen to prominence thanks to enthusiasm about cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum and Dogecoin. Businesses have also taken note of the promise of blockchain technology to improve the transparency and data integrity of distributed transactions.

Suseel Menon, senior analyst at Everest Group, said the trust and security policies and governance layers of cloud services are sufficient for most enterprise applications. In addition, several third-party data storage services can provide better governance and security with far less overhead than a blockchain would entail, he said.

AWS Makes Ethereum Generally Available On Amazon Managed Blockchain | In the News

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced the general availability (GA) of Ethereum on its managed blockchain service.

Amazon Managed Blockchain was only made available in mid-2019, with the previous November’s re:Invent announcing the product itself. AWS said at the first launch that it would support Hyperledger and Ethereum, therefore making the latter integration a long time coming. As per analysis last year from Everest Group, the company is a leader in managed blockchain – but a distance behind IBM and Microsoft Azure.

This has been true for years, of course, ever since the first digital computers shook up the modern workplace. Indeed, the next phase may not even involve what we typically think of as “offices” at all – a recent Everest Group report1 indicates that close to 70 percent of large enterprises believe most employees won’t have a traditional, physical office space by 2021.

Short-term Pullback by Investors to Hit PH BPO | In the News

A short-term pullback by investors is expected to hit the Philippine business process outsourcing (BPO) industry that could result in a nominal to flat growth this year, according to an industry expert.

There are no official 2020 figures yet as to the industry performance last year, but based on IBPAP commissioned study with third party The Everest Group to recalibrate the sectors trajectory up to 2022, it showed that revenue growth could slow from 7.1 percent in 2019 to -0.5 percent in 2020. The study further pointed out that revenues will slip to $26.2 billion from $26.3 billion in 2019. Hiring growth meanwhile is seen to flatten out, but the good news here is the IT-BPM sector is projected to lose zero jobs in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Intelligent Automation – Just Add AI to your RPA | In the News

As we’ve tracked the adoption of AI/ML across industries the application that always seems to lead is RPA (Robotic Process A…, sometimes also referred to as IA (Intelligent Automation). The problem with giving credit for AI/ML adoption to RPA is that RPA historically has meant robotic process simplification. That is, processes were indeed automated but it was all rules based; no real AI/ML in sight.

This graphic from a 2017 Everest Group report does a good job of contrasting the difference (although here Everest labels IA as artificial intelligence (AI)).

Will Indian IT Majors See Covid Impact like Accenture Did? There’s One Reason Why They May Not | In the News

Indian IT services peers of Accenture have faced challenges during the first quarter (April-June) due to delay or cancellation of certain projects in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. That said, Indian companies have comparatively less dependence on the segment that contributed majorly to the US giant’s decline this quarter.

“We believe that the other large service provider firms are also experiencing short term pain in consulting, particularly in their ERP implementation practices as well as all of discretionary spending. However, the industry pipelines for new work are very full and all firms including Accenture are posting record bookings,” said Peter Bendor-Samuel, chief executive, Everest Group, an IT advisory firm.
